What does Scriptures tell us about evil?
- Evil is:
- Morally bad or wrong
- A wicked aspect of one's character
- Something that causes suffering, injury, ruin, pain, harm or destruction
- Verses from Scriptures about evil.
- Isaiah 5:20 -> Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
- Proverbs 8:13 -> “The fear of יהוה (YAHUAH) is to hate evil. I have hated pride and arrogance, And the evil way, And the perverse mouth.
- Romans 12:21 -> Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
- 1 Corinthians 15:33 -> Do not be led astray, “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
- Genesis 50:20 -> “And you, you intended evil against me, but Elohim intended it for good, in order to do it as it is this day, to keep a great many people alive.
- Psalm 5:4 -> For You are not an Ěl (YAHUAH) taking delight in wrong, Nor does evil dwell with You.
- Psalm 34:14 -> Turn away from evil and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it.
- Romans 12:9 -> Let love be without hypocrisy. Shrink from what is wicked, cling to what is good.
- Proverbs 6: 16-19 -> These six matters יהוה (YAHUAH) hates, And seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, And hands shedding innocent blood, A heart devising wicked schemes, Feet quick to run to evil, A false witness breathing out lies, And one who causes strife among brothers.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:22 -> Keep back from every form of wickedness..
- Proverbs 3:7 -> Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear יהוה (YAHUAH) and turn away from evil.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:15 -> See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.
- 1 Thessalonians 5: 21-22 -> prove them all. Hold fast what is good. Keep back from every form of wickedness.
- Proverbs 4:27 -> Do not turn to the right or the left; Turn your foot away from evil.
- Zechariah 7:9-10 -> “Thus said יהוה (YAHUAH) of hosts, ‘Execute true right-ruling, show loving-commitment and compassion everyone to his brother. “Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the stranger or the poor. And do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’
